March is Youth Art Month, a time to recognize art education and creativity within our schools. This year, staff hosted a potluck in celebration of the remarkably talented young artists at PA Distance Learning Charter School.

Nationally administered by The Council for Art Education (CFAE), Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs and promotes art material safety. It also provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences, such as problem-solving, creativity, observation, and communication.

On Wednesday, March 8, PA Distance teachers and staff gathered in the STEAM Hub to browse students’ artwork and enjoy delicious homemade food.

“We are so excited as a staff to promote the arts, and in this day and age, we just want students to have the opportunity to excel at visual arts and music, especially in the cyber setting. My goal is to always provide a rigorous music program, with a variety of electives,” explained PA Distance teacher Miss DeMark.

“Our hearts are full of joy when our students succeed in creating a masterpiece, and during this month, we can just be reminded of our ‘why’ at PA Distance.

“As teachers, we are never done learning and improving our craft, and we encourage students to give themselves a chance to learn about art and music, even when they feel like they're not experts.”

Thank you to Miss Joyous DeMark, Ms. Amber Fox, and the Fine Arts Department for organizing this celebratory event, and to all of the amazing students at PA Distance who make our teachers proud each and every day.

*PA Distance will be touring Pennsylvania to showcase your artwork in June! To submit your piece for the upcoming Art Show, bring it to any of the field trips or send it to your art teacher. We promise you will get it back!
