A Tuition-Free Public Cyber Charter School for Philadelphia Families

Online schooling can be a major win for students who, for whatever reason, don’t excel in a traditional school environment. At PA Distance Learning, we’ve worked hard to ensure that our Philadelphia distance learning charter school excels in all areas of education, with innovative programming that keeps students active, engaged, and on a path to long-term success.

As with all other local public schools, we are also funded by your home school district. That means no tuition, no fees, and no out-of-pocket costs for Philadelphia families. What's included at no cost is a school-issued laptop, curriculum materials and hands-on learning kits, and full access to PA-certified teachers, counselors, and support staff.

Families in Philadelphia interested in cyber school don't need to apply for financial aid or worry about tuition, either. Enrollment is open to any Pennsylvania K–12 student, and it costs nothing to attend.

  • I love that I am surrounded by highly trained staff that I can learn from and that I do work each day that I am passionate about and makes a difference in student lives.”

Ms. Budd, Career Education & Work

  • PA Distance is a community of educators and learners. To us, teaching is not just a job, it’s a craft. We continuously strive to be better teachers than we were the year prior. Stagnancy is short-lived. Routine isn’t routine.”

Mr. Mysels, High School Social Studies

  • At PA Distance, we care about the students’ academic well-being. Not all students are the same, and we are willing to personalize their learning experience.

  • Students need a partnership. They need a teacher to work with them in real-time, as large groups, in small groups, and one-on-one sessions to ensure their learning needs are being met, and they are experiencing academic growth.

Why Our Online School Is a Top Choice Among Local Parents

  • A safe place to learn: Students work from home, away from bullying and the distractions that can make a traditional school setting difficult.

  • Real teachers, real classes: Our blended learning model combines live synchronous classes, taught by PA-certified teachers in real time, with structured Independent Lessons on non-class days. Teachers monitor progress throughout the week and hold daily office hours at 3:00 p.m. so students always have somewhere to turn.

  • Personalized support: Smaller class sizes and direct teacher access mean students who are falling behind can catch up, and students who are ready to move faster don't have to wait.

  • Flexibility for real life: Whether your family deals with medical needs, scheduling challenges, or a child who simply learns better outside a traditional classroom, our program is built to adapt without sacrificing rigor.

State Proficiency

Like any Pennsylvania school, students in Philadelphia enrolled at our cyber school undergo targeted testing to measure their progress and keep them on the right path. This includes all required tests administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, including the PSSA (grades 3–8) and Keystone Exams (grades 9–12).
