PA Distance Offering 12 FREE Virtual Summer Camps

Once again, PA Distance is offering fun and educational virtual summer camps beginning this June for students in grades K-12. As many parents lookout for ways to engage their children educationally over the summer, these camps will provide a world of learning opportunities, virtually! This year, PA Distance is offering a whopping 12 virtual summer camps focusing on a variety of topics and interests.

French and Spanish teacher, Ms. Angela Berger, who is in charge of organizing the summer camps, is also leading the American Sign Language Camp and Pet Camp.

"Pet Camp is for anyone who loves pets," Ms. Berger explained. "We'll learn all about how to care for our furry friends. If you have a pet or just want a pet, this would be a great camp for you."

"ASL Camp will introduce students to the basics of signing and Deaf culture," Ms. Berger added.

Ms. Berger, along with the rest of the PA Distance staff, is excited for the ninth summer of virtual camps.

"Our wide variety of virtual camp offerings will help to keep learning alive this summer," she said. "Students will have fun while learning and making friends with peers from throughout Pennsylvania."

Mrs. Darcy Bible, K-12 Instructional Technology Coach and After School Program Coordinator, is also a part of the planning and organization efforts of summer camps. She is thrilled to add to the variety of camps by offering a few as well including   Adventure Awaits: Book Buddy Camp, Make and Model Math Crafts Camp, and Digital Literacy 101 Camp, each differentiated in levels of activities and open to K-12th grade students.

“The Adventure Awaits: Book Buddy Camp will provide students with tools and strategies that promote reading and literacy development through a student centered and fun approach!,” Mrs. Bible said. “With access to various online and in person collections of literature libraries, students will embark on a personalized reading journey where they investigate and explore stories of interest to them.”

Among the camp options is Photography Camp, where students will be given weekly.

photography challenges that students will be able to complete using phones, cameras, chrome books, or any other technology that they have available to them.

“I am looking forward to exploring a contemporary art medium with students over the summer using the technology that they already have at home,” Mrs. Clingensmith said. “I am most excited for students to be able to see their art printed in a book which will be given to them at the end of the camp.”
